French II

Grades 10th – 12th

French II will be the continuation of French I. The goals of the class are, in order of emphasis:

  1. Learn to speak and understand spoken French
  2. Read French
  3. Memorize Scripture in French
  4. Write in French
  5. Extensive Vocabulary development
  6. Study French history, culture and one classic literary work

Grammar study in this semester will include mastering the future and the past tenses, irregular verbs, possessives, demonstratives, comparatives and adverbs, future tense, conditional, and indefinite adjectives and pronouns. The class is very interactive and requires students to participate. Students will be required to speak, recite and present in French in class.

Students must also attend two 45-minute sessions with a student leader to practice speaking and listening and to work on homework assignments. Learning a language is like learning a musical instrument: you must practice in order to speak and comprehend French.

In order to take French II, you must have scored at least a B in French I or, if you are not a previous student, you must score an 80% or better on a placement exam. Email the instructor if you would like to take the placement exam.

  • One medium sized 3-ring binder
  • 3-hole punched, college ruled notebook paper
  • 4 – 5 dividers
  • Pencil
  • Blue/black pen and a red or other bright-colored pen for grading
